The Day of Preparation
The Day of Preparation was established by God as a time to prepare for the Sabbath, completing necessary work so His people could enter into a day of rest. In the New Testament, we see a far greater fulfillment of that preparation as Jesus, our Passover Lamb, was crucified, and His finished work on the cross made true spiritual rest possible for all who come to Him. While the people were preparing for the Passover, God was fulfilling everything the Passover had always pointed to: salvation through the blood of the Lamb. Jesus declared, “It is finished,” completing the work necessary for our redemption.
As we come to the Lord’s Table, we are reminded that our preparation is not about making ourselves worthy, but about approaching Him with humble, grateful hearts. The work is finished, the Lamb has been sacrificed, and we can rest in what Christ has accomplished for us. Through communion, we remember His sacrifice and celebrate the fellowship we share with Him and with one another. Preparation calls us to ready our hearts, the cross reminds us that all has been completed in Christ, and the Lord’s Table invites us to remember and rest in Him.
