Unless The Lord Builds the House
Haggai encouraged a discouraged remnant who looked at their limited resources and compared their small beginning with the former glory of Solomon’s temple. God reminded them, “I am with you,” and called them to obey and work—not because their effort would produce the glory, but because He would. Psalm 127:1 gives us the foundation: “Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it.” We have a part to play, but the glory belongs to God.
God then promised to shake the heavens and the earth, removing what can be shaken so that what cannot be shaken may remain. The same promise echoes through Hebrews 12 and points us beyond buildings, resources, numbers, and human strength to the unshakable Kingdom and the greater glory of Christ Himself. So we need not be discouraged by what looks small or by what we lack. We work—but God builds. We watch—but God keeps. The Master Builder is still building His house, the Master Keeper is still keeping His people, and Jesus Christ will have the final, greater glory.
